Desctiption:The Sunway Campus of Monash University opened in 1998 and is located within the Bandar Sunway township in Malaysia. 5 Most Unforgettable Incidents in Malaysia

1. THE MAY 13 INCIDENT
The May 13 Incident is a term for the Sino-Malay sectarian violences in Kuala Lumpur (then part of the state of Selangor), Malaysia, which began on May 13, 1969. The riots led to a declaration of a state of national emergency and suspension of Parliament by the Malaysian government, while the National Operations Council (NOC or Majlis Gerakan Negara, MAGERAN) was established to temporarily govern the country between 1969 and 1971.

Officially, 196 people were killed between May 13 and July 31 as a result of the riots, although journalists and other observers have stated much higher figures. Other reports at the time suggest over 2,000[citation needed] were killed by rioters, police and Malaysian Army rangers, mainly in Kuala Lumpur. Many of the dead were quickly buried in unmarked graves in the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital grounds by soldiers of Malaysian Engineers.

The government cited the riots as the main cause of its more aggressive affirmative action policies, such as the New Economic Policy (NEP), after 1969.

The allegation was first made public in September 2007 by former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim who released a low quality video showing lawyer V.K. Lingam allegedly talking to former Chief Judge of Malaya Ahmad Fairuz Abdul Halim about the appointment of the latter into the office of Chief Justice of the Federal Court. Ahmad Fairuz retired as the Chief Justice of the Federal Court in late 2007 after his tender was not renewed due to objection from the Conference of Rulers.

Bersih spokesperson and PAS central committee Zulkifli Ahmad led Bersih representatives to Prime Minister Department Tuesday (18 Dec) afternoon and they have submitted a protest against the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2007 that seeks to extend the retirement age of members of Election Commission (EC) from 65 to 66.
On 20 Nov, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nazri Aziz tabled for first reading the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2007 that seeks to extend the retirement age of members of Election Commission (EC) from 65 to 66. Parliament passed legislation on 11 Dec to increase EC members' retirement age from 65 to 66. Rashid's contract ends this month.
Zulkifli Ahmad said Bersih was not giving warning to government, but to "remind" the government.
He added there were many kinds of protests, demonstration was one of it.
Parti Keadilan Rakyat vice presedent Sivarasa Rasiah said the protest which was submitted to Prime Minister has clearly stated that :"Bersih wants to remind Prime Minister, if the tenure of Election Commission chairperson is extended, we would not guarantee that people would not demonstrate."
He said this was a serious issue, if Prime Minister ignored it, undoubtedly it would "invite" people to take action. Commenting on what kinds of action, He said "let us wait and see".

4. The Murder of Shaariibuugiin Altantuyaa

(Mongolian language: Шаарийбуугийн Алтантуяа; sometimes also Altantuya Shaariibuu; 1978 – 2006), a Mongolian national, was a murder victim who was either murdered by C-4 explosives or was somehow killed first and her remains destroyed with C-4 in October 2006 in a deserted area in Shah Alam, Malaysia near Kuala Lumpur. The Shah Alam High Court meted out the death sentence to two of the accused on 9 April 2009, wrapping up the 159 day trial.

Teoh Beng Hock (simplified Chinese: 赵明福; traditional Chinese: 趙明福; pinyin: Zhào Míngfú; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Tiō Beng Hok) (1979–16 July 2009) was a Malaysian journalist and political aide to Ean Yong Hian Wah, a member of the Selangor state legislative assembly and state executive council. On 15 July 2009, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) took Teoh into custody for questioning about allegations of corruption. Teoh was found dead the next morning on the rooftop of a building adjacent to the MACC offices. Pakatan Rakyat leaders and a number of federal government officials have called for a Royal Commission of inquiry into Teoh's death.^[1]

1. Mohamed Nazri bin Abdul Aziz

Dato' Seri Mohamed Nazri bin Tan Sri Abdul Aziz is a Malaysian politician from the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), and is as of 2008 a Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of parliamentary affairs.^[1] In June 2005 Nazri caused controversy when he shouted the phrase "bloody racist" (or variants of it) 28 times in Parliament. A request by opposition Democratic Action Party (DAP) lawmaker Fong Po Kuan for Nazri to take back his comments went unheeded. The incident occurred during a debate on the Malaysian Medical Council's derecognition of Crimea State Medical University (CSMU) medical degrees; most Malaysian students sent to study there were of Indian extraction. Nazri has since used the phrase "bloody racist" on Tun Dr. Mahathir because the latter supports a controversial government programme that allegedly indoctrinates racist sentiments in civil servants and public university students.

2. Mahathir Bin Mohamad

He held the post for 22 years from 1981 to 2003, making him Malaysia's longest-serving Prime Minister, and one of the longest-serving leaders in Asia.[2] Mahathir's political career spanned almost 40 years, from his election as a Malaysian federal Member of Parliament in 1964, until his resignation as Prime Minister in 2003.

As Prime Minister, he was credited with engineering Malaysia's rapid modernisation.[3] During his term in office, he was considered by some as one of Asia's most influential leaders.[4] Mahathir was also widely known as an outspoken critic of Western-style globalization.[5]




3. Anwar bin Ibrahim


Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim (born 10 August 1947) is a Malaysian politician who served as Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister from 1993 to 1998. Early in his career, Anwar was a close ally of Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohamad but subsequently emerged as the most prominent critic of Mahathir's government.
In 1999, he was sentenced to six years in prison for corruption, and in 2000, to another nine years for sodomy. In 2004, the Federal Court reversed the second conviction and he was released. He has stated the need for liberalisation, including an independent judiciary and free media, to combat the endemic corruption that he considers pushes Malaysia close to failed state status.[
